Neighbors,

During the last 14 months of the COVID-19 pandemic, so many aspects of our lives have been affected. Many of us have wondered if there would ever be light at the end of this long tunnel.  While we are still dealing with many challenges from the pandemic, a return to normal is on the horizon with the CDC’s updated guidance on mask wearing and social distancing for fully vaccinated people!

In this newsletter, I have included information about:

  • Updated COVID-19 mitigation measures

  • Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation Survey

  • Bureau of Land Management Survey

As always, let me know if you have questions or need assistance by calling my office at (804) 698-1042 or emailing me at DelKTran@house.virginia.gov.

UPDATED COVID-19 MITIGATION MEASURES

Because of Virginia’s strong vaccination rates and low COVID-19 case counts, Governor Northam has ended the universal indoor mask requirement and is moving up the end date for all social distancing guidelines and capacity restrictions to Friday, May 28th. You can read the full executive order here

Mask Requirements

Governor Northam has ended the universal mandate to wear masks indoors, effective midnight, May 14. This decision aligns with new CDC guidance that people who have been fully vaccinated no longer have to wear masks in most indoor settings. To see the full CDC recommendations look here

Some things to note:

The CDC considers someone fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine (eg Pfizer or Moderna) or two weeks after their dose of a single-dose vaccine (eg Johnson and Johnson).

Masks are strongly encouraged for those who have not yet received their vaccine.

Businesses retain the ability to require masks in their establishments.

Employees in certain sectors—including restaurants, retail, fitness, personal care, and entertainment—must continue to wear masks unless fully vaccinated, per CDC guidance.

Masks are required in hospitals, on public transportation, and in other congregate settings.

Vaccination Opportunities

All individuals ages 12 and up may obtain a vaccine in Virginia. In Fairfax County, you can:

Schedule an appointment through the Fairfax Health Department’s Vaccine Administration Management System here.

Find an appointment nearest to you through www.VaccineFinder.org.

Go to the Tyson’s Community Vaccination Center, which accepts same day onsite registration. More information is available here.
